Kurash in Asian Games in Macau

2nd Asian Indoor Games with good organizing of the KCA and effective cooperation of the IKA, held in Macau in October-November 2007 featured the Kurash demonstration competitions held on 2 November 2007 at the IPM Multisport Pavilion in Macau.

The Kurash Confedration of Asia would like to express gratitude to His Royal Highness Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, Honorary President of KCA and President of OCA and other executive committee for their continuous support in arranging the Kurash competitions under the Asian Indoor Games in Macau.

Results of the 4th Puria Vali international tournament

20-21 June 2007 Tehran, Iran.

This annual international tournament, traditionally organized by the Kurash Confederation of Asia and the Iranian Kurash Federation, set the record on number of participants this year. Almost 20 countries of Asia and Europe, namely Iran, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Mongolia, Vietnam, Chinese Taipei, Pakistan, India and others sent their strongest Kurash players to compete at this event. The competition was held on the open stadium of the Iranian National Olympic Academy in Tehran and was broadcast live by one of the major Iranian national television networks. The event was attended by top executives of the Iranian sports ministry and the national Olympic committee.

 Afghanistan holds its 5th Kurash National Team Championships

Report contributed by the Afghan Kurash Federation.

The Championships were held with participation of 104 Kurash players from 12 different Provinces of Afghanistan like Kabul, Balkh, Parwan, Badakhshan, Fariab, Takhar, Samangan, Jawzjan, Hetat, Bghlan, Sare Pull, and Kunduz in 7 weight categories under 60, 66, 73, 81, 90, 100, +100 kg. The competition was held in Mazar-e-Sharif center of Balkh Province which is located in the North of Afghanistan for encouragement of the remote Provinces.

As a result of the Competitions from 104 players 28 of them were successful to win medals and membership in the National Kurash Team of Afghanistan.

The Championships were conducted by the President of the Afghanistan Kurash Federation (AKF) Said Mahmood Zia Dashti, Vice-President of the Afghanistan National Olympic Committee.

In the end of the ceremony Mr. Dashti said: - “We want to build those minds who are save in the remote Villages to have more strong players in future, as we bring Kurash from the Dust field in the Mat field we will be able to extend it in each Province of Afghanistan by the cooperation of Foreign Countries and the IKA”.

The 1st 2nd and 3rd editions of the National Team Championships were held in Kabul City in 2003, 2004, and 2005 with successful results and process.

The 4th edition of the National Team Championships were held in Kunduz Province in 2006.

 Kurash in Asian Games in Doha

For the first time in history the Kurash competitions were held in the program of the Asian Games. On 14 December 2006 in Doha, Qatar at the Qatar Sports Club the demonstration competitions on Kurash were organized and held in the framework of the 15th Asian Games.

The competitions held in under 73 and under 90 kg weigh categories among senior men were witnessed by the number of top executives of the Olympic Council of Asia and different National Olympic Committees of Asia, including the OCA’s Executive Board members namely OCA Vice President Mr. Manuel Silvério (Macao), OCA Sports Committee Chairman Mr. Wei Jizhong (China), IOC member from Mongolia Mr. Shagdarjav Magvan and others.
